Dubai has a reputation as an expensive city, and for the wrong kind of traveller, it is. But Dubai also has a massive Indian community, a public transport system built for the masses, and a neighbourhood (Deira) where you can eat exceptionally well for Rs. 400–600 a meal. Here is the real cost breakdown for 2026.
Visa: The Step Most Indians Get Wrong
Most Indians cannot get a UAE visa on arrival. The UAE offers VOA only to Indians holding a currently valid visa from the US, UK, EU, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, or China with at least 6 months remaining.

Food in Dubai: Where the Budget Traveller Wins
Dubai's Indian community numbers in the hundreds of thousands. The result: an exceptional concentration of budget Indian restaurants in Deira's Meena Bazaar area and along Bur Dubai's Al Fahidi street.
Budget Indian meals
Full thali at Deira restaurants: AED 15–25 (Rs. 390–650). Real restaurant food, not street-stall quality. Kerala, Punjabi, and South Indian options all well represented.
Shawarma and local fast food
Shawarma in Deira: AED 6–12 (Rs. 156–312). One of the best cheap options in the city. Al Mallah in Satwa is legendary for authentic cheap shawarma.
Mall food courts
Convenient but expensive. Dubai Mall food courts are not a budget option. Budget Rs. 1,200–1,500 here vs. Rs. 500 for equivalent food in Deira.
Daily food budget: Rs. 1,200–1,800 per person sticking to Deira Indian restaurants. Rs. 2,500–4,000+ if eating at Marina or mall restaurants.
Getting Around: The Dubai Metro
The Dubai Metro Red Line connects the airport (Terminals 1 and 3) through Deira, down Sheikh Zayed Road, to Dubai Mall, and out to Marina. For a budget traveller, this covers almost everything.
Metro costs: single trip AED 3–8.5 (Rs. 78–221) depending on zones. Day pass unlimited (Silver): AED 22 (Rs. 572). NOL stored-value card: AED 6 to acquire, then top up as needed. For 5 days with 2–3 Metro trips per day, the NOL card is more economical. Total Metro budget for the trip: Rs. 1,500–2,500.
Taxis: AED 12 minimum (Rs. 312) plus AED 1.96 per km. The Metro is around Rs. 130 from Deira to Dubai Mall; the same by taxi costs Rs. 650+.

5 Days in Dubai Under Rs. 70,000
Day 1 — Arrival and Deira exploration
Metro from the airport to your Deira hotel. Gold Souk (browsing is free), Spice Souk, Dubai Creek abra crossing (AED 1 per person). Dinner in Meena Bazaar. Total day spend: Rs. 600–800 on activities and transport.
Day 2 — Old Dubai and the Dubai Frame
Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (free), Dubai Museum (AED 3). Dubai Frame (AED 50 = Rs. 1,300) — better value than Burj Khalifa; shows you old and new Dubai from a glass-floored sky bridge. Total spend: Rs. 1,500–2,000.
Day 3 — Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa
Dubai Mall is free to enter. Burj Khalifa (At the Top) costs AED 149–189 (Rs. 3,875–4,914) — book online 2 days ahead for the lower rate and shorter queues. Dubai Fountain show is free at 6 PM and 8 PM nightly outside the Mall. Total spend: Rs. 4,500–5,500.
Day 4 — JBR Beach and Marina
JBR public beach access is free. Walk the Marina promenade. Budget dhow cruise from Marina: AED 100–150 (Rs. 2,600–3,900) with dinner included. Total spend: Rs. 3,200–4,500.
Day 5 — Shopping and departure
Deira for souvenirs: saffron, dates, attar, dry fruits — significantly better value here than airport duty-free. Allow time to Metro back to the airport. Total spend: Rs. 1,500–3,000.

Marina looks affordable online until you add food costs. Restaurants in the Marina area cost Rs. 2,500–4,000 per meal vs. Rs. 500–700 in Deira. Over 5 days, accommodation savings of Rs. 5,000 disappear in 2–3 meals.
Using taxis instead of the Metro
Dubai taxis are legal and metered, but expensive. The Metro covers the main tourist corridor — airport to Deira to Dubai Mall to Marina. An AED 22 day pass covers unlimited Metro rides; the same journeys by taxi cost AED 80–120.
Travelling peak season and paying 40% more for flights
December and January are peak Dubai season. February and October offer comfortable temperatures (25–30 degrees Celsius) and 30–40% cheaper flights. If dates are flexible, avoid peak season.
Paying for the Burj Khalifa when the Dubai Frame is better value
The Burj Khalifa observation deck costs AED 149–375+ depending on timing and deck level. The Dubai Frame at AED 50 gives you a genuinely unique view of both old and new Dubai from its glass-floored bridge — better value per dirham for a first visit.
Starting the visa process less than a week before departure
UAE visa processing takes 3–5 working days. Applying with less than 6 days to go risks missing deadlines or paying emergency-processing premiums. Apply the moment you have confirmed flights.
